When a woman puts on a dress she
almost always fusses over the hemline immediately. If the dress is bordering on
too short, she tugs it down. If the dress is any other length, she folds it up
and wonders if it would be more flattering if it were shorter. I’m a firm
believer that there is not a single length out there for each woman. I think
the optimal length can vary from dress to dress, even on the same person. Some
styles are skimpy and revealing on top and therefore a hemline just below the
knee might be best. Or a dress with a high neck and shoulder pads, might be
heavy on top and therefore showing a little more leg might be most flattering.
Not everyone will agree with me on
this, I know. Some women believe if they have a larger chest or broad shoulders
they MUST wear shorter skirts because their legs will be proof that they aren’t
big all over. Other people will
tell you that age should be the determining factor for skirt length. I saw a
segment on NBC’s The Today Show this morning that was based on this theory. I’m
not sure I buy into it but watch the segment below and let me know what you
think! If you don’t agree with the age theory, what is the deciding factor for
you?
